Project SEE Social Innovation Competition

Every big change starts with a small step. We believe your innovative ideas and the impact you can make are the compass guiding our society towards a better future! You will have the opportunity to put your learning into practice by participating in the “Project SEE Social Innovation Competition”. This competition encourages you to plan and implement a “social innovation project”, contributing positively to society.

 

Objectives
  • To encourage EdUHK students to serve and contribute to society with innovative ideas
  • To enhance students’ understanding of and foster their sense of commitment and responsibilities
  • To nurture students’ all-round qualities, especially integrity, perseverance, teamwork, leadership and compassion
  • To strengthen students’ professional knowledge and skills by applying entrepreneurial concepts, knowledge, skills and methodologies learned to specific, real-world business problems and issues
Eligibility
  • All EdUHK students, either full-time or part-time
  • Students can apply either individually or in a group
  • Priority will be given to those who have previous experiences in organizing community services

Submission of Entries

To enter the Competition, applicants are required to develop a social innovative solution to a social issue and submit the ideas in PowerPoint Slides, together with a presentation video following the guidelines below:

PowerPoint Slides

  • The slides shall at least include the following contents:
    • project title;
    • specific social issue to be addressed;
    • brief summary and plan of the project;
    • impact of the project, including expected number of beneficiaries;
    • details on how to assess the effectiveness of the project; and
    • a budget plan (miscellaneous and unspecified items will not be considered)
  • The slides shall be submitted in PDF format
  • The slides shall be written in either Chinese or English
  • The total number of slides should be at least 5 and no more than 10

Presentation Video

  • Film in a well-lit and indoor location with as little background noise as possible
  • Applicant(s) should be shown clearly without face mask in the video at all times
  • The presentation shall be in either Chinese or English
  • Video length: not more than 10 minutes
  • Aspect ratio: 16:9 (landscape)
  • Resolution: 1920 x 1080 or 4K
  • Video format: either in MP4 or MOV
  • Submission method: submit an access link for watching and download

Deadline for submissions is Sunday, 24 March 2024.

Adjudication & Final Pitching

The submitted entries will be adjudicated by a Judging Panel comprising 3 judges who are EdUHK staff and/or external guest(s) invited by the Organiser.  The top 10 teams will be invited to conduct a final pitching to the Judging Panel on Monday, 8 April 2024 at Special Education Room, 1/F, Mong Man Wai Library, EdUHK.

The Adjudication Panel of each round shall comprise 3 judges who are EdUHK staff and/or external guest(s) invited by the Organiser.

Submitted Entries and the presentations in all rounds will be judged by the Adjudication Panel based on the following judging criteria:

  • How innovative is the proposed solution with regard to addressing the social issue?
  • How relevant does the solution respond to the specific social issue?

Impact
  • What is the scale of potential social impact of the solution?
  • How significant is the impact?
  • Is appropriate and adequate evaluation of the project outcomes clearly planned?
30%
Feasibility
  • How feasible is the solution in practice?
  • How justifiable is the proposed budget?
  • Will the solution be sustainable over the long term?
20%
Presentation
  • Is the content organised and clear?
10%
Award and Funding Support
  • All 10 teams participate in Final Pitching will be issued certificates of appreciation
  • The 5 teams with the highest scores will be the winning teams
  • The Winning Teams will be issued award certificates and will be funded by CEIE to execute their projects in summer 2024 (i.e. May to August 2024)
  • The amount of funding for each project shall be decided on a case-by-case basis by the Organiser in consultation with the Judging Panel and the maximum funding for each approved project is capped at HK$5,000
  • All expenses incurred solely for the approved projects will be paid on a reimbursement basis after the completion of the project.
  • Winning teams are required to submit a final report within one month of completion of their projects.
  • Outcomes of the winning projects will be showcased at the “Social Entrepreneurship Week – SEW for Good” in Sep 2024
